To celebrate its 100-year anniversary, the Institute for Ethnic Studies invites academics from across the globe to submit abstracts for papers they would like to present at our international conference titled The Importance of Exploring Ethnicity in the 21st Century.
The aim of this conference is to provide a platform for discussing emerging ideas for papers and stimulate critical discussions on a wide range of themes pertaining to ethnicity and diversity in contemporary societies.
We invite presentations that examine the legal status of ethnic communities, ethnic identities in contemporary societies at all levels (international, national, regional, societal, institutional, group, family, and individual), and common research dilemmas in this field.
We welcome proposals for presentations from academics at all career stages that engage with the themes of the conference. Postgraduate students and early career researchers are particularly encouraged to participate.
We particularly welcome contributions on the following topics:
shaping ethnic and linguistic identities in the modern world
instrumentalisation of ethnic identity
the role of minority elites in shaping and/or preserving ethnic identities
ethnic identification and youth engagement
